Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received British Minister of State for the Middle East and International Development Alistar Burt and his accompanying delegation that included British Ambassador to Iraq Jon Wilks and British Consul-General to the Kurdistan Region, Martin Warr.
Minister Burt expressed his appreciation of the sacrifices made by the Kurdistan Region in the fight against terrorism. He affirmed British commitment to support the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
He welcomed the improvement of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad towards resolving outstanding issues. He also expressed support for the new Iraqi Government and the formation of a new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet.
Prime Minister Barzani thanked the United Kingom for its assistance to the Kurdistan Region. He said the political atmosphere between Erbil and Baghdad has been condusive to resolving some issues while others will need more time. He also reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s support to the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi.
The importance of continued cooperation to prevent the re-emergence of terrorism, including ISIS, in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq was mutually acknowledged.
